What it watches

Five signs of slouching a webcam can see clearly.

A front camera can't see your lower back, so PostureCheck measures what it can see reliably and compares it with your own upright baseline. Each sign gets a plain tip the moment it shows up.

Head drifting forward

Your head creeps toward the screen and drops below its upright height. The classic tech neck.

Slumping

Your head sinks closer to your shoulders as your upper back rounds.

Sinking into the chair

Your shoulders slide down the frame as your hips slip forward on the seat.

Leaning in

Your whole upper body moves toward the camera to read something small.

Uneven shoulders

One shoulder rides higher, usually from leaning on an elbow or the armrest.

How it works

Three seconds to set up. Then forget it.

  1. Sit tall once

Face the camera with your head and shoulders in view and sit up straight. Three seconds later that posture is your baseline.

  2. Work as usual

A live score from 0 to 100 tracks how far you drift from your baseline. Mint is good, amber is drifting, coral is slouching.

  3. Get a nudge

Slouch for longer than your alert delay and you hear a soft chime. With Pro you also get a desktop notification and a floating monitor.

Private by design

Your camera feed never leaves this tab.

Most posture checks ask you to upload photos of yourself. This one doesn't need to. The pose model runs on your own computer, so there is nothing to upload in the first place.

  • On-device pose modelGoogle's MediaPipe pose model runs in your browser through WebAssembly, served from this site.
  • Nothing recordedFrames are measured in memory and thrown away. No video, no photos, no landmarks are stored or sent.

Why live tracking

A photo shows how you stand. Slouching happens hours into sitting.

Posture check questions

How does a webcam posture check work?

PostureCheck finds your ears, nose and shoulders in each camera frame with an on-device pose model. You sit up straight for about three seconds so it can learn your upright position, then it compares every frame with that baseline: how high your head sits above your shoulders, whether your head is moving toward the screen ahead of your body, whether your shoulders are level and whether you're sliding down in the chair. The result is a live score from 0 to 100.

Is my video recorded or uploaded?

No. The pose model and the code that runs it are files served by this site and executed in your browser. Frames are read, measured and discarded in memory. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent to a server, and there is no account to create.

Is the posture check free?

Yes. Everyone gets 2 minutes of live posture tracking a day for free, with the score, the tips and the slouch chime. Pro removes the daily limit and adds the floating monitor, desktop notifications, stand-up reminders and 30-day history.

Where should my webcam be?

Straight in front of you at roughly eye level, with your head and both shoulders in view. A laptop camera works fine if the laptop sits on a stand or a stack of books. If you move the camera, press recalibrate so the baseline matches the new angle.

Does it keep working when I switch to another tab or app?

Yes, as long as the PostureCheck tab stays open. Browsers slow down background tabs, so checks run about once a second instead of fifteen times, which is plenty for posture. Pro adds a floating monitor window that stays on top of your other apps in Chrome and Edge.

How accurate is it?

It is accurate at what a front-facing camera can see: head height over the shoulders, head size relative to the shoulders, shoulder level and sinking in the chair. It can't see your lower back from the front, so it measures the upper-body signs that come with slouching rather than spine angles directly. Because it compares you with your own upright baseline, it adapts to your body and your camera instead of an average.

Is this a medical device?

No. PostureCheck is a habit tool that reminds you to sit well. It doesn't diagnose or treat any condition. If you have neck or back pain that lasts, numbness, or pain after an injury, see a doctor or physiotherapist.

Which browsers and devices does it work on?

Current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a computer with a webcam. The floating monitor uses Document Picture-in-Picture, which Chrome and Edge support today. Phones work for a quick check, but posture tracking is designed for desk work.

How do I cancel Pro?

The monthly plan renews every month until you cancel, and you can cancel any time from your Stripe receipt email. Lifetime is one payment and never renews.
